ORIGINS OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT
Published in Paperback by Free Press (September, 1986)
Author: Aldon Morris
Average review score:

Origins of the Civil Rights Movement
Articulate and provocative, Aldon Morris' study of the American Civil Rights Movement is a comprehensive and comprehensible analysis of a strategic struggle for human survival and essential dignity. Emphasizing that African Americans have rarely accepted the subordinate position forced upon them, that the Civil Rights Movement was carefully orchestrated rather than a series of random events, and that women played a critical role in the organization and implementation of the movement, Morris incisively resurrects and dismantles official discourses. In the tradition of John Hope Franklin's "From Slavery to Freedom", Lerone Bennett's "Forced into Glory", and Ivan Van Sertima's "They Came Before Columbus", Morris reconstructs history with a fresh perspective. Morris' extensive use of the interview technique enables the reader to probe the minds of the makers and shakers of the movement, as we hear them speak in their own words. Somewhat academic in its approach, yet eminently readable, "Origins of the Civil Rights Movement" can be understood and appreciated by middle school students, academicians, and history buffs alike. It is a must-read for those interested in a complete understanding of American history in general and of African American history in particular.

Our Idea of God
Published in Paperback by Regent College Pub (01 January, 1997)
Authors: Thomas V. Morris and Thomas, V. Morris
Average review score:

Superb introduction to Philosophical Theology!!!
Highly recommedable to people interested in philosophy and theology. Its strength lies in clarity and depth, a good combination for a philosophy book. Morris' articulation of many basic philosophical issues in theology is as clear as it can get, (speaking from a theology/philosophy student's point of view). At the same time, its content exceeds way beyond simplistic explanations that fall so short of our expectations. I think that if you have some aquaintance with philosophy (ex, having taken some introductory level classes), you will, with a reasonable amount of effort, find this book immensely satisfying and rewarding. Morris' "Our Idea of God" deals with such topics as (1) compatibility between God's foreknowledge and human freedom, (2) the relationship between biblical theology and philosophy, (3) God's omnipotence and challenges posed against it, (4) Incarnation and Trinity, and many more. Written from a Christian perspective, I believe it can greatly strengthen and further one's thinking of God - which is, to say the least, very very exciting!! I wish I could have read it sooner.

Passion and Deceit
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (August, 2001)
Author: Tolbert Morris
Average review score:

A Page-Turner with plenty of twists!
Full of twists and turns, Passion & Deceit is the best mystery I've read lately. It is the story of a wealthy young man's harrowing journey to deal with a past he didn't create in a present he barely survives. The book lives up to its title, and then some.

Passion & Deceit begins with young Edward Cashmere falling in love with a beautiful, mysterious woman named Sonja, who cruelly deceives him with the help of his periphatic brother Samual ... a brother who has not only held a burning, deep-seated jealousy of Edward since childhood, but now holds a secret that can cause Edward's world to come crashing down around him, and leave their father's business empire in ruins.
Edward's only help are his father's faithful servant, Ward, and a God-sent ghost of his childhood. The violent and shocking end will leave your hair standing up, and the inspiring epilogue will leave you both satisfied, and wanting more. Excellent first book from a very promising writer!

Passover Haggadah
Published in Paperback by Prayer Book Pr (Hartm) (June, 1986)
Author: Morris Silverman
Average review score:

A True Classic
Of all the many editions of the Haggadah that are in print, this is the one that I always keep coming back to. I have a largecollection of Haggadot (close to 100) but when I needed one standard one for everyone at my table I chose the Silverman Haggadah.

The Haggadah includes the traditional text with a more up-to-date translation. The english is gender sensitive and there are short commentaries and english readings throughout.

All in all I could not imagine going through Passover without this Haggadah.

Paul Strand circa 1916
Published in Hardcover by Yale Univ Pr (1997)
Author: Maria Morris Hambourg
Average review score:

Provocative, daring, inspirational: Strand fans must see!
Paul Strand unquestionably had a great career in photography and is one of the all time masters. But this book of his early work shows the depth of his artistic vision. Unconstrained by commercial pressures and reputation, much of Strand's early work shown in this book is graphically stronger, more "edgy", and more compelling than his later work, as acclaimed as it is.

If you love Strand's later work, this book, at the very least, will be meaningful to you by showing you a glimpse of the development of this great photographer. Beyond that, you may love his early work and find it compelling and inspirational, as I do.

A Peace Reader is a recommended, transforming, and deeply spiritual read about nothing less than making the world a better place during troubled and troubling times.

Peacemakers: the Great Powers and American Independence
Published in Textbook Binding by Harpercollins College Div (January, 1900)
Author: Richard B. Morris
Average review score:

Best Account of the Paris Peace Negotiations
Before the negotiations to end the Vietnam War, before the negotiations to end the First World War, there were negotiations in Paris to end the American Revolutionary War, and all the related wars between Britain, France and Spain. The late Richard Morris, in this book, has written the best account of these fascinating, important negotiations. The American team, perhaps the best diplomatic team we have ever fielded, consisted of Franklin, Jay and John Adams. The other players in the drama include King George III and his ministers, negotiators and spies, and King Louis XIV and his team. Great history, easily accessible.
